Human Space Flight – Funding Restoration

In an article on SpaceNews.com, it appears that the White House has asked that $670 million cut from NASA’s nearly $4 billion budget request for human space exploration be restored to the 2010 budget by the Commerce, Justice, Science committee.

This report comes on the heals of an announcement from the Augustine Commission that it will hold a public teleconference on Thursday, Oct. 8, from approximately 1 to 2 p.m. EDT.

Public participants will be in a listen-only mode:

  • Toll-free number: 1-888-373-5705
  • Other number: 1-719-457-3840
  • Participant Passcode: 190078

So, here we are, reading tea leaves again. NASA’s budget is not enough to do an American program alone. Does the administration go after an international consortium?

How does the administration attend to the political pressures holding tight to the current doomed Constellation Program?

But at the minimum, it appears the White House acknowledges that the budgetary and leadership neglect of NASA over the past eight years must come to an end.
