Dear Space Enthusiasts,
NSS Phoenix is inviting you to join us for a tour of the Challenger Space Center.
Event Title & Type: Monthly NSS of Phoenix Event for March
Location: Challenger Space Center of AZ
17835 N. 44th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85032
Venue: Challenger Space Center Tour
Date and Time: March 19, 2022 – 11:00AM to 1:00PM
Executive Director: Beverly Swayman
The Challenger Space Center is the new home for our in-person meetings that are held on the third Saturday of the month.
Come and visit the Challenger Space Center for an in-depth tour and experience!
The Challenger Space Center is very happy and pleased that we want to visit their Center and hold our future meetings there. They cannot stress how much they want to work with our Chapter to forward our shared missions.
The Challenger Space Center sees how much their programs are needed for Arizona students. They are open to any ideas we may have regarding possibilities/projects that we could collaborate on to bring attention to the NSS Phoenix Chapter and to the Challenger Space Center.
They have a lot of an elementary school converted into classrooms, museum-style exhibits, hands-on and interactive displays, and their space station simulator (which is still a work in progress). Also, the Secretary of our Chapter, Michael Mackowski recently donated a 1/10 scale Mercury capsule model from McDonnell Aircraft, which he restored and was happy to find a good home for it.
The Challenger Space Center is very happy to offer a classroom for our monthly NSS meetings. There would be no charge for the use of the classroom. The rooms have video monitors where we can plug in a laptop for a presentation, and we can access their Wi-Fi/Internet and do hybrid (in-person and virtual) meetings. The rooms also have a table so we could have food brought in.
For the in-depth tour and experience, the Executive Director, Beverly Swayman mentioned that it would be greatly appreciated if we could donate half the normal admission rate per person since that is a regular museum operational day. Typically, their adult admission fee is $10 but $5 per person would help offset any additional costs they may incur for hosting the tour and meeting. Each individual attending will be responsible to pay for their admission for the tour.
After the tour, we can have a little get together in the classroom that has been already reserved for us.
The Challenger Space Center Tour is open to every one of our members who will be interested in going on the tour. Our members’ husbands, wives, and significant others are welcome to attend.
Please let me know if you will be attending and the number of people that will be attending by emailing Mario Anzalotti at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I will need to know how many people will be attending by Thursday, March 17th and provide a final attendance count no later than the morning of Friday, March 18th.
